Ice cream, celery, peas, or carbonated drinks – some completely everyday foods can turn enjoyment in the pool into torture. Here’s what to avoid.
Spicy food Since we mostly swim in a horizontal position, heartburn can occur, and spicy food can further irritate your esophagus. If you eat something spicy, do not swim for at least half an hour.
Fruit juices and carbonated drinks In summer, we dehydrate faster, but never try to compensate for water loss in your body with carbonated drinks or fruit juices. All these can cause bloating and stomach cramps.
Alcohol Alcohol is high on the list of forbidden things to consume before swimming. In addition, alcohol accelerates dehydration and puts extra strain on the liver.
Peas Although peas are high in fiber and relatively healthy, they are not ideal for swimmers. Besides causing bloating and cramps, peas can also cause constipation. After a meal with peas, wait at least half an hour before swimming.
Celery Apart from peanuts, celery is one of the foods that can trigger the strongest allergic reactions. Avoid it before swimming, as it increases sensitivity to the sun and irritates the skin.
Ice cream Because of its dairy fats, ice cream is strongly discouraged before swimming. Dairy products can cause nausea and other stomach troubles.
