10 foods you should never eat for breakfast – did you find any of your favorites on the list?
From donuts to pancakes and sweetened coffee – experts warn that some popular morning foods are more harmful to your body than you think.
1. Don't overdo it with orange juice
If you drink store-bought juices for breakfast, stop immediately. Prepared juices contain a lot of sugar and a low percentage of real fruit. It's much better to eat a fresh orange, as it has many vitamins, minerals, and especially fiber.
2. Stop with the pancakes
Just because people eat pancakes for breakfast in movies doesn’t mean it’s healthy. In fact, pancakes are among the most harmful breakfast foods. Instead, mix cereals, yogurt, fruit, and vegetables. That way, you'll get a lot more energy and protein. Pancakes will only upset your digestion and overload vital organs.
3. Avoid sweetened coffee
Many people can't start the day without coffee, but beware! The problem isn’t coffee itself, but what you add to it. You should avoid adding sugar, extra cream, and similar things, as they turn coffee into a calorie bomb.
4. Energy bars
Even though it might seem like a good idea, store-bought energy bars contain a lot of sugar. Some bars also contain pieces of chocolate and other substances you should avoid. It's better to make your own energy bar. At least then you'll know what's in it.
5. Alcohol
Alcohol is definitely not something you should start your day with. Aside from being harmful to your health, your body won’t get any useful nutrients— instead, it will have to deal with eliminating toxins. What's more, avoid anything that contains alcohol, because the effect is the same.
6. Fatty food
Fats are healthy, but definitely not on an empty stomach. Fatty foods are heavy and extremely high in calories. Your body needs easily digestible food.
7. Sweets
If you eat candies, cakes, desserts, drink sweet beverages or sweet coffee, you’ll be hungry again in half an hour. If you don't eat something healthy at that point, the hunger will return again soon after.
8. Snacks
Snacks are usually heavily salted, and salt retains water and slows down digestion. Instead of salty pastries, eat an apple or dried fruit.
9. Fast food
Fast food is high on the list of foods that make you gain weight, clog arteries, harm your heart, and raise your blood sugar. Don’t forget that bakery pastries also fall into this category. A delicious croissant won’t satisfy your body's hunger.
10. Donuts
Although they are considered desserts, they could also be placed in the group of fatty foods, and they deserve their own mention. Donuts, besides sugar and fat, are full of oil, which further overloads and slows down your digestion. Donuts are not recommended at any time of the day.
