Heavy, fried, and white foods burden the body in the heat more than you think. What to eat and what to avoid to feel lighter and more vital in the summer.

Every nutrition expert will tell you that in summer we should eat light and low-fat foods of bright colors. Otherwise, you will feel even hotter and also more tired and lethargic. This, of course, means that in the summer you should mostly eat seasonal fruits and vegetables. Nature is our best nutrition advisor.

Of course, we also need to pay attention to drinks. We should drink plenty of water and unsweetened teas, as only this way will we cool our body and also feel less hungry.

Among the most recommended summer fruits are certainly watermelons, which actually consist of 90 percent water, but the remaining part contains a lot of fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Since watermelons are technically vegetables, you can use them as an addition to salads or soups. Try it and you’ll be surprised by the freshness.

Cucumbers are also interesting, as they work similarly to watermelons. They contain a lot of water. You can grill them or prepare a tasty and healthy salad.

Tomatoes, onions, and peppers are the winning salad combination in the summer. They contain a lot of water and vitamins and are rich in minerals. Such a salad also strengthens and protects the skin from ultraviolet rays.

In any case, during the summer months, forget about fried and heavy foods. Instead, choose fish, chicken, or turkey with fresh vegetables. Replace chocolate and pastries with refreshing yogurt with fruit. Homemade ice cream is also much better, full-flavored, and healthier than those from the street, where, in hot days, the risk of salmonella infection is much higher.

One more thing applies to summer nutrition: avoid white foods.

White foods include white bread, sugar, rice, and similar items. Even white ice cream is usually worse than those with natural colors (avoid artificially colored ice creams).

And what about grains and nuts? They are definitely healthy, but don’t eat more than a handful.
