Eat One Orange a Day: What Really Happens to Your Body?
A Japanese study with more than 13,000 participants showed that regular consumption of citrus fruits can reduce the risk of dementia. And this is not the only benefit.
Oranges are among the most healing and nutritious fruits. They benefit us in winter, and even more so in summer. We also need a lot of vitamin C in the summer (since we lose it more quickly through sweating – the body cannot store vitamin C, so any excess is constantly flushed out), which is the foundation of a strong immune system. The difference is that in winter we need robust health because of the flu and colds, while in the summer, things are much more serious.
Scientists from Tohoku University in Japan found that minerals and fibers in oranges reduce the chance of dementia by 25 percent! Moreover, oranges are also good for circulation and blood pressure.
The Japanese analyzed more than 13,000 elderly people and came up with incredible yet simple solutions. All the elderly who ate one orange a day, or a grapefruit, lemon, mandarin, or some other citrus, had a stronger immune system and were therefore protected from viruses for a longer time in winter. It turned out that dementia was the most outstanding result.
But oranges are not recommended only for the elderly; they also benefit young people and those in middle age. Because of the abundance of fiber (there are 2.5 grams of fiber in 100 grams of oranges, and they have only 47 calories), they have a cleansing effect, and if you replace dinner with one orange, you can lose noticeable weight after just one week.
And here's another interesting fact about oranges: in Europe, we value red oranges more, while Americans and the English prefer yellow ones, but the most healing (although not entirely researched yet) are bitter oranges.
