Two cases when grapefruits can be harmful
Grapefruits are among the healthier fruits, but only if you are healthy – be especially careful with children...
The liver is the main catalyst in the body and plays an important role in metabolism. Among other things, the liver takes care of the blood picture, fat in the blood, cholesterol, sugar, and converts amino acids into glycogen... However, the key task of the liver is to protect the body from harmful toxins, which are increasingly present in modern food. And since even the liver cannot keep performing miracles, over time dangerous toxins start to accumulate in the body, causing a range of problems.
Cleansing diets – some people even swear by fasting – have become almost necessary nowadays.
And this is where grapefruits come in.
If you want to cleanse your body of toxic substances, then you should not eat grapefruits. Although they are a healthy fruit with plenty of vitamins and minerals, they slow down and even block the enzyme CYP314, which is responsible for separating toxins from healthy substances. This is the most important enzyme needed to eliminate toxins from the body, and just a small piece of grapefruit can nullify your whole day’s detox diet.
Another combination where grapefruits are not desirable is medication. If you are taking medication, its effect will be significantly reduced if you also eat grapefruits. The reason is similar to that with detoxing. The same enzyme CYP314 significantly reduces the effectiveness of medicines, and you must be particularly careful about this with children.
Finally, if you are not taking medication and if you are not on a detox diet, grapefruits are among the healthiest citrus fruits – their juice dissolves fat, regulates digestion, improves wellbeing, and suppresses appetite...
