Foods We Use Incorrectly

Here are 7 foods we use every day, but we don't realize that small details can determine their healing and nutritional effects.

1. Broccoli

Broccoli is among the most beneficial foods in the world. It is rich in vitamin C, chlorophyll, antioxidants, fiber, substances that destroy cancer cells, and many other nutrients. However, in 2009, Chinese scientists discovered that all these elements are only present in raw broccoli, or if it is steamed for no longer than 2 minutes.

2. Strawberries

Strawberries also contain a lot of fiber, antioxidants, and vitamin C, but this does not apply to greenhouse strawberries. There’s another important thing: the nutrients in strawberries are sensitive to light and oxygen, so store strawberries in a dark and cool place and eat them as soon as possible. Scientists have also calculated that strawberries are at their best 30 minutes after picking.

And don't forget: a pack of frozen strawberries often has more vitamins than fresh ones. This is especially true in autumn and winter months.

3. Black Tea

Drinking tea is not a simple thing. Some people drink it with a teaspoon of honey, a slice of lemon, milk... Studies have shown that every addition to tea reduces its healing power. Antioxidants remain intact, but lactic acid from milk completely nullifies all the benefits of tea.

4. Flax Seeds

Flax seeds are a real treasure of fiber, omega-3 fatty acids, and antioxidants (mostly lignans). However, all this is lost if you combine flax seeds with yogurt or energy drinks. Also, flax seed powder is less nutritious.

5. Garlic

Garlic contains a chemical compound called allicin, which inhibits cancer cells, bacteria, and fungi in the body. In addition, garlic is also rich in vitamin C, but its potency is lost when exposed to air. However, this is when allicin is activated. For this reason, experienced chefs let minced garlic sit for at least 10 minutes after chopping. This way, a whole new power of garlic is activated...

6. Tomatoes

Tomatoes are mainly rich in lycopene, which helps prevent heart disease, cancer, and inflammatory diseases, but this only applies if the tomato is heat-processed at at least 90 degrees Celsius. The healthiest tomato is a grilled tomato.

7. Yogurt

If there is liquid in your yogurt, do not pour it off. This is whey, which contains a lot of protein, vitamin B12, calcium, phosphorus, and other minerals.

Also, keep in mind the tip to add a spoonful of sour milk to grilled meat or pour it over with whey. This way, the dish will be richer in calcium, vitamin D, and probiotics.
