Iodine is the most important mineral in the summer. Why?
Iodine is responsible for many processes in our body, especially for the functioning of the thyroid gland, so we must never lack it.
Chronic mineral deficiency is very common in the summer. Much more so than in winter! This causes headaches, fatigue, and many other problems. We must remember that with increased sweating, we lose water faster, but also minerals and vitamins. Therefore, a varied diet with lots of fruits and vegetables is even more necessary in the summer. And we must not forget about sufficient water intake.

In the summer, iodine is the most important mineral because we do not get enough of it with increasingly depleted food. As a result, thyroid diseases are on the rise. Besides its effect on the thyroid gland, iodine also affects the brain, breasts, skin, stomach... Iodine is essential for the synthesis of thyroid hormones, necessary for normal metabolism and proper nervous system function. If the body lacks iodine, it leads to muscle cramps, dry skin, hair loss, poor nails, poor concentration and memory, lack of energy, irritability, increased fatigue, and depression, as well as dehydration and emotional disturbances.

It's all dehydration's fault!

In 2006, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) began an extensive multi-year study on iodine content. For almost three years, they systematically measured iodine levels and found an unequivocal link between iodine and intelligence, motor skills, and empathy. Participants who experienced iodine deficiency in their youth had more frequent thyroid problems in middle age, significantly worse memory, more difficulty learning, and more problems with motor tasks. This problem was particularly evident among young people, who face a grim future. But iodine deficiency today is especially problematic among the elderly...

And we must not forget another EFSA finding: food in Slovenia contains very little naturally occurring iodine, as plants cannot extract it from the soil. Apparently, our soil is very depleted.

We know what this means...

Finally, a warning: do not overdo it with iodine, as good properties can quickly turn into bad ones.
