Celery in a bag with bread: a simple trick that only a few know, but it works surprisingly well
Celery stalk contains up to 95% water and creates a microclimate in the closed bag, which keeps the bread moist – without changing the taste or smell.
Bread is best when it’s fresh, but unfortunately, that’s only the first day. The first thought is to put bread in the fridge, which isn’t good because it will lose its flavor and texture. If possible, never put bread in the refrigerator. Even in the freezer, you shouldn’t keep it for more than 6 months.
But you can use a simple tip. Put the bread in a plastic bag, add a few leaves and stalks of celery next to it, and close it well. The celery will provide enough moisture to the bread so it doesn’t dry out, and since celery doesn’t have a strong smell, it won’t change the smell or taste of the bread.
Bread in a bag, together with celery, can last a week or even more.
