One of the oldest professional British medical journals, BMJ, has published the results of a study conducted over several years with 187,000 men and women participating. The study clearly showed that potatoes are harmful.
Potatoes are the third most consumed food after rice and wheat. In 2013, 368 million tons were produced. The largest producer is China, accounting for about a third of the world’s production.
Because potatoes have a lot of starch and carbohydrates, you should avoid them or consume them in moderate amounts. British researchers found that those who ate potatoes a maximum of 3 times a week had significantly fewer health problems.
Potatoes cause raised blood pressure, digestive issues, poorer blood counts, and even headaches. The worst is fried potatoes, followed by roasted, mashed, and the least harmful is potato salad.
In fact, potato salad is the least harmful from a health perspective, since the starch in cooled potatoes changes from simple to complex, meaning that the body needs much more energy (read: calories) and time for it to appear in the blood as sugar. Precisely because of this gradual process, the body can react to increased sugar levels and break down most of the excess sugar in time.
Otherwise, don’t think that potatoes are really that harmful. This is only the case if you have problems with your weight. Potatoes have a lot of vitamin B6, potassium, copper, vitamin C, manganese, phosphorus... They also have a lot of healthy fiber.
So: if you want to eat healthily, eat potatoes every other day, and avoid them on weekends. Additionally, potato salad is significantly less harmful compared to potatoes fried in oil.
