Find out what your metabolism is like and adjust your diet
When you start eating according to your metabolic type, you will not only lose excess weight, but you will also feel better and be healthier.

If you crave sweets or salty snacks, it may be due to your specific metabolic type, which affects your food cravings. Experts like the popular American doctor Dr. Mehmet Oz recommend a diet based on three types of metabolism. Understanding your own metabolism helps you choose the foods your body needs, which leads to more balanced weight, more energy, and better health.

What is metabolism?

Metabolism is the process by which your body converts food into energy. This includes both the breakdown of nutrients (catabolism) and their building up into substances the body needs (anabolism). The speed of your metabolism determines how quickly your body burns calories—some people have a faster metabolism, others a slower one.

According to a study by Harvard Medical School, metabolism accounts for 60% to 75% of all daily calories burned, depending on the individual. Age, gender, body composition, and genetics influence this.

Basically, we distinguish between three metabolic types ...

TYPE A – Lover of salty and fatty foods

Type A often has a strong craving for salty and fatty foods, such as chips, fried snacks, or burgers. Such individuals are often prone to anxiety and fatigue. They have a strong appetite, are talkative and energetic.

The metabolism of type A quickly processes proteins and fats, but more slowly carbohydrates. Cravings for salty foods are often a sign of protein deficiency.

Recommended meal distribution:
  • 50% protein (meat, fish, eggs)
  • 30% fat (avocado, nuts, olive oil)
  • 20% carbohydrates (whole grains, fruit, vegetables)

Choose dark meat (beef, dark chicken, turkey), salmon, or tuna. These foods are high in purines, which help protect blood vessels.

TYPE B – Lover of sweets

Type B strongly craves sweets, such as ice cream, cookies, and pastries. They have a weak appetite, are organized, sensitive, and often under stress. They are often dependent on caffeine and struggle with excess weight.

Their bodies need healthy carbohydrates that provide lasting energy.

Recommended meal distribution:
  • 70% carbohydrates (brown rice, whole wheat bread, oats)
  • 20% protein (white poultry, fish)
  • 10% fat (nuts, seeds)

Reach for white meat (chicken, turkey) and white fish (cod). Plant-based proteins such as lentils and chickpeas are also recommended.

TYPE C – Combination of sweet and salty

Type C likes both sweet and salty food equally. Their appetite is unpredictable, they are often tired and nervous, and at certain times they struggle with being overweight.

Recommended meal distribution:
  • 33% protein (chicken, salmon, beef)
  • 33% fat (olive oil, cheese, yogurt)
  • 33% carbohydrates (whole grains, bananas)

For a balanced diet, combine foods with higher and lower fat content and make sure you have a varied selection.

Knowing your metabolic type helps you adjust your diet to your needs. This way, you will improve your health, lower your body weight, and increase your energy level. Try the suggested eating strategies and observe how your body responds. How you feel is the best indicator that you are on the right path.
