Too much water? Is that even possible?

Reminders that tell us when we need to drink so we don't get dehydrated are fine, but if we overdo it, that's not good either …

Too much water can also be harmful. It's true that the threshold is quite high, but it's still good to know when not to go overboard … Research shows that a person should never drink more than 2 to 3 liters of water every 15 minutes.

This is such a high amount that it can’t be accidentally missed or forgotten, but problems start much earlier …

The biggest issue is diabetes, which can cause you to drink up to 8 times more than usual, while most medications only increase the feeling of dehydration. If you take medication for diabetes, it is very difficult to control how much water you drink and consume (don’t forget, we also get water from food!).

Excessive hydration disrupts the balance of salt and electrolytes.

When this happens, you may experience unusual sweating (even if you haven't been physically active), frequent muscle cramps, tingling in the stomach … Behind these mild symptoms, serious complications can develop over time—and all it takes is just 2 liters more water than recommended. Also, keep in mind that there is water in salad, beer, fruit juice, smoothies …

It’s much better to listen to your body than to your phone’s reminders.
