Intensive swimming in the sea burns up to 820 calories per hour, so more than boxing. If you go into the water three times a day, you can turn your vacation into the best diet of the year.

Did you know that 1 kilogram of weight is equal to 7,500 calories? So if you want to lose 5 kilograms, you would need to save 37,500 calories, without ever exceeding your allowed daily amount. Put another way: if you ate 500 calories less each day than optimal, you would lose 5 kilograms in 75 days.

That's almost impossible!

Not because it's impossible to eat 500 calories less every day, but because nobody has the willpower to persist for that long.

That's why it's always good to know shortcuts on how to lose accumulated fat or calories faster.

But how can you quickly lose calories?

Did you know that for one hour of intensive boxing (including punching a heavy bag), you burn 800 calories? That’s why boxing is considered one of the most effective physical activities.

For one hour of squash, you'll need 750 calories. Household chores will take off a good 100 calories. Rowing burns 720 calories, while rowing in the gym burns 440 calories.

For one hour of outdoor running at a moderate pace, you need 700 calories per hour; for one hour of cycling, 600 calories. If you use a stationary bike, you'll only burn 540 calories.

One hour of playing football will save you 600 calories, basketball 475 calories, and tennis 470 calories. If you do all this in the gym, you will burn about 20 percent less.

From all this we can conclude that boxing is the best slimming sport, but there is one activity that is even hungrier for calories. If you are in water and swimming leisurely, you’ll burn 480 calories per hour. But if you swim intensively and with full effort for at least half an hour, you’ll burn 820 calories.

Therefore, a simple calculation applies. If you are at the seaside and go into the water three times a day for 20 minutes—and each time swim intensively for 10 minutes—then with an active vacation over 14 days, you can lose your set goal of 5 kilos less on the scale.

So make smart use of your holiday.
