5 problems you can treat with water
Our ancestors used water to relieve pain, treat insomnia, and even heal chronic diseases. Today, science confirms what our parents already knew ...
Water has an exceptional healing power. Here are some examples:
  • Muscle Pain: Natural Regeneration
After intense physical activity, we often experience muscle pain. One effective method to relieve this pain is alternating hot and cold water showers, known as contrast water therapy. A study from 2007 showed that this method speeds up muscle recovery after exercise.

It is recommended to shower the sore areas for three minutes with hot water (37.5–41 degrees Celsius), followed by 30 seconds with cold water (10–15 degrees Celsius). Repeat the process three times, finishing with cold water. This exchange of temperatures promotes blood circulation and reduces inflammation.

  • Headache: Cold Relief
Headaches are often a result of poor blood circulation in the brain. Cold water can help improve circulation and reduce pain. Some people report relief from headaches by immersing their hands or feet in cold water for a few minutes. This method can help redirect blood from the head to the extremities, reducing pressure in the head.

Additionally, cold compresses on the forehead and back of the neck can help alleviate pain. Warm compresses may be beneficial for shoulder pain.

  • Blocked Sinuses: Heat and Cold for Easier Breathing
Blocked sinuses can be very unpleasant. One method to relieve this condition is a combination of warm foot baths and cold compresses on the forehead and neck. Dip your feet in warm water (around 40 degrees Celsius) for 10–30 minutes, while placing cold compresses on your forehead and the back of your neck. The warmth will stimulate blood circulation in the feet, while the cold compresses will reduce inflammation in the sinuses.

  • Arthritis: Water Therapy for Flexible Joints
Arthritis is a chronic disease that causes pain and stiffness in the joints. Water therapies, such as hydrotherapy, have proven to be effective in relieving arthritis symptoms. Studies have shown that hydrotherapy reduces pain and improves joint mobility in patients with knee osteoarthritis.

If you do not have access to hydrotherapy, you can use cold compresses at home to relieve joint pain. It is important not to use the compresses for too long and to take breaks during use to prevent skin damage.

  • Insomnia: Warm Bath for Peaceful Sleep
Insomnia is a common problem, especially among the elderly. A warm bath before bed can help with relaxation and improve sleep quality. A study from 2002 showed that evening warm baths improve sleep in elderly people with insomnia.

It is recommended to bathe in water with a temperature between 36–38 degrees Celsius approximately 30 minutes before bedtime. Placing a cold compress on your forehead during the bath can further promote relaxation.

Water is more than just a basic necessity of life—it is a natural remedy that we always have at hand. By using simple water therapies, we can alleviate various health issues and improve the quality of life. It is important to listen to our bodies and find ways to help them naturally.
