Oranges are among the most healing and nutritious fruits. They benefit us in winter as well, but even more so in summer. In the summer, we also need a lot of vitamin C (as we lose it faster through sweating - the body cannot store vitamin C, so we constantly excrete excess), which is the foundation of a strong immune system. The difference is that in winter we need robust health because of the flu and colds, but in summer things are much more serious.
Scientists from Tohoku University in Japan have found that the minerals and fibers in oranges reduce the risk of dementia by 25%! Additionally, oranges are also good for better circulation and blood pressure.
Japanese researchers analyzed over 13,000 elderly individuals and came up with amazing, yet simple solutions. All the elderly people who ate an orange, grapefruit, lemon, mandarin, or any other citrus fruit a day had a stronger immune system and thus were more protected against viruses in winter. It turned out that dementia was the most outstanding benefit.
Oranges are not only recommended for the elderly, but they also benefit young people and those in middle age. Due to their high fiber content (2.5 grams of fiber per 100 grams of oranges with only 47 calories), they have a cleansing effect, and if one orange replaces dinner, noticeable weight loss can be achieved in just one week.
And here's another interesting fact about oranges: while red oranges are more appreciated in Europe, Americans and the English value yellow oranges more. However, bitter oranges are considered the most beneficial (although not yet fully researched).
