Which food causes acne?
It's almost impossible to give a general answer, so the best way to find out is to do it yourself. Read why?!
Although doctors and nutritionists will never agree on which food causes acne, they do agree on one thing - there is a strong, albeit mysterious, connection between food and clear skin.
The fact is that we all had acne problems during puberty. This is a time when our body and sebaceous glands are cleansing due to increased activity, and it is not wise to avoid it. This is part of a normal and healthy way of growing up. Hiding acne with makeup can only clog the glands and temporarily hide them, which can lead to much more painful cystic acne.
It is best to let adolescent acne subside on its own.
What about when acne appears in adults?
Acne in adults is much more problematic. Because they reveal things in the body that are hard to notice, so every pimple deserves attention.
Many of them are caused by stress. A few days off, vacation, is the most helpful in this case.
Many pimples are caused by your favorite pastries, too many cakes, too many sweets, they can also appear after a heavy meal of pasta, fries... Always keep in mind that acne is a result of chemical processes that occur when consuming certain foods.
Some people get pimples when they eat too much greasy and/or spicy food. Problematic foods can also be those with lots of artificial sweeteners and colorings (white bread, chips, pretzels). Insulin also increases sebum production, so any type of food that raises blood sugar (besides sugar, these can also be high-carb foods) is dangerous. In general, the belief is that food with a high glycemic index (greater than 70) causes acne. Unfortunately, chocolate is also on the list of foods to be cautious of, as well as all other foods with a lot of dairy additives (processed milk is among the most dangerous acne triggers). However, the story is not quite so bleak, as dark chocolate (chocolate with over 70% cocoa content) has the opposite effect, as antioxidants help cleanse the body and eliminate acne.
Among the riskier foods are alcohol, industrial juices (especially sodas), instant cereals for breakfast, all salty snacks...
Do not forget one important characteristic: the most dangerous is the combination of cow's milk and hormones.
Hormones from milk along with calcium accelerate the functioning of the sebaceous glands, which helps in cleansing the body, but not in acne formation, even the painful ones. Therefore, nutritionists recommend avoiding yogurt, cheese, and ice cream.
Among the riskier foods are those with trans-fatty acids. (waffles, chips, fried meat). Frying in deep oil is particularly problematic because carcinogenic substances are formed, where acne is the last thing you think of. Avoid creamy donuts, puff pastry, pizzas...
Foods with a lot of saturated fatty acids are also dangerous for acne formation. This group includes almost all types of meat, sausages, milk, cheeses, mayonnaise... In certain cases, acne can occur with elevated cholesterol, so pimples can also be a sign of problems in cardiovascular disease...
Finally... there are many products on the market on how to conceal pimples, but it's not just about food; the amount of sleep is also important. Regular and healthy sleep is the best remedy for internal inflammatory processes that cause acne.
