However, cough in winter is associated with seasonal illnesses (flu, cold, inflammations), and can be quickly relieved with this beverage:
- 6 bay leaves
- 2 dcl of water
- juice of 1 lemon
- 5 tablespoons of honey
First, boil the water and add the bay leaves. Let it boil for another 5 to 10 minutes. Then remove from heat and let it cool slightly for 5 minutes. Remove the bay leaves and add honey and lemon. Instead of honey, you can also use regular sugar (we recommend brown sugar). Mix everything well (if using honey, make sure not to mix with a metal spoon), and this mixture can be stored in the refrigerator.
Take one tablespoon every 2 to 4 hours. This syrup is very effective, especially in alleviating dry cough.
Remember that bay leaves are rich in vitamin A, C, iron, potassium, calcium, and magnesium. They promote overall health, have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-fungal properties. They help in managing diabetes and speeding up the processing of insulin in the blood. Bay leaves have also been found beneficial in treating migraines, menstrual cramps, urinary problems, and rheumatism. Bay leaves contain enzymes for protein breakdown, aiding in digestion regulation.
Even if you have no health issues, a spoonful or two of this homemade remedy won't hurt.
