Sulforaphane is a very unusual substance. Officially, it is an anti-tumor and antimicrobial agent used in the treatment of autism and skin cancer. It is also a common ingredient in cosmetic products that slow down the aging process. It works in the body indirectly by activating phase II metabolism enzymes, which help the body get rid of carcinogens, destroy abnormal cells, and limit oxidation.
There is a lot of talk about sulforaphane, but the pharmaceutical industry does not give it much importance. Maybe because it is most abundant in broccoli and cauliflower?!
American epigeneticists have found through extensive research that sulforaphane is a component of dark green vegetables, most commonly found in cabbage, kale, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, and horseradish. Researchers from the A & M Health Science Center in the USA also found that those who consumed a lot of cabbage in addition to sulforaphane in tablet form did not develop any cancerous diseases or tumors at all (this was also confirmed in tests with laboratory mice).
It was previously known that sulforaphane likely prevents and treats colorectal cancer and prostate cancer, but medicine is currently hiding behind the fact that there have not been enough studies conducted for sulforaphin to become part of official treatment.
Indeed, all research shows that sulforaphane helps the body overcome genetically modified cells, thereby preventing the formation and development of tumors. However, it must also be added that an excess of sulforaphane in the body stimulates the production of the Nrf2 protein, which is a very useful antioxidant but also increases the development of existing tumors in the arteries.
Where can sulforaphane be found?
The most potent source is 3-day-old broccoli sprouts, which contain 20 to 50 times more anti-tumor substances than mature broccoli heads, which are considered to be the vegetable with the most sulforaphane.
Spinach is also rich in sulforaphane and contains a lot of coenzyme Q10, which is a fat-soluble antioxidant that effectively protects the heart from various cardiovascular diseases.
Testing in Japan has shown that those who consumed at least 200 grams of smoothies with broccoli and spinach per week were 44% less likely to develop cancer.
All you have to do is blend 100 grams of broccoli into a liquid puree and drink it quickly. It's even better if you do this with sprouts.
