1. Potatoes
The green parts of potatoes contain solanine, which can cause vomiting, diarrhea, and sometimes even a heart attack. But no worries. You would need to eat at least half a kilogram of green potatoes to have a heart attack.
2. White rice
In addition to nutrients and vitamins, white rice often contains large amounts of arsenic. You may not have known, but rice thrives best among industrial waste. Rice often accumulates large amounts of heavy metals, but fortunately, it's in very small quantities. You would need to eat 7 million cups to be poisoned by arsenic. For Europeans, this amount is almost unattainable.
3. Chard and spinach
Both contain oxalate, which causes kidney stones. Nutritionists even say that people suffering from rheumatoid arthritis, kidney disease, and gout should avoid chard and spinach.
4. Elderberry
Elderberries contain a lot of glycosides, which transform into cyanide in the digestive process. Fortunately, this danger does not exist if the berries are thermally processed.
5. Almonds and other kernels
Unripe almonds contain cyanide, and eating 50 kernels a day is enough. It is also not recommended to eat sunflower seeds, apple seeds, and pear seeds.
6. Lima beans
Lima beans contain linamarin, which in the body forms a cyanide compound that breaks down tissue. However, this danger exists only if one were to eat several kilograms of raw beans a day. If the beans are cooked, this danger is eliminated because linamarin is excreted into the water in which the beans are cooked. This water is by no means suitable for drinking.
7. Nutmeg
Nutmeg can become toxic, causing headaches, nausea, and even hallucinations. Although it is believed that these problems occur only with large amounts, people are different and have different pain thresholds.
