If the Chinese had tiger balm, which opens the respiratory passages, in Europe we had a more effective and simpler remedy made from just two ingredients. Traditional healers often used this preparation for treating inflamed sinuses, chronic headaches, and it was very successful in cases of flu, colds, and stuffy nose (which is a common occurrence nowadays due to centrally heated dry indoor air).
Ingredients:
- 1/2 kilogram of freshly grated horseradish
- 1/2 liter of homemade wine vinegar
It's best to use a glass jar for storage. Grate the horseradish first and pour it over with 1/2 liter of homemade wine vinegar. Close the jar tightly and place it in a room with room temperature for 10 days, avoiding direct sunlight. Shake the jar well every day, even multiple times a day. After 10 days, the remedy is ready.
If you want to treat sinuses, then inhale the vapors of this mixture for at least 5 minutes every day. Cover your head with a towel and try to breathe calmly and deeply.
If you want to treat headaches, soak a towel in this mixture and place it on your forehead or the affected area overnight.
Remember one more ancient Greek proverb: radish is worth its weight in lead, beetroot is worth its weight in silver, and horseradish is worth its weight in gold.
It is worth mentioning that inhaling horseradish and wine vinegar is a very good preventive protection against winter illnesses.
