Pineapple is incredibly healthy, and you should eat more of it, especially regularly. You don't have to eat a whole pineapple every day, as two slices about 1 cm thick (each) are more than enough. Just like with anything else, overdoing it with pineapple isn't beneficial, especially because it’s high in vitamin C, which our body can't store.
So, why is it good to eat two slices of pineapple every day?
1. Weight Loss
Bromelain in pineapple stimulates digestive functions. This is why it's recommended to eat pineapple before you exercise or take a walk. When you're active, the consumption of calories and fat reserves will be much higher. This way, you'll lose weight naturally.
Fun fact about bromelain: Research shows it improves blood circulation in the uterus, acts as a preventive against miscarriages, and helps in the healthy development of the baby.
2. Inflamed Joints
Pineapple also soothes inflammation and acts as a mild diuretic. This means it helps remove toxins and excess fluids from the body, which are often the cause of painful and less mobile joints. Pineapple helps in the regeneration and restoration of connective tissue, thus preventing cardiovascular diseases. Additionally, athletes use pineapple in the natural treatment of bruises and to address bladder and gland issues.
3. Heart Diseases
The high vitamin C content and its role in collagen production strengthen the heart muscle, bones, cartilage, muscles, and of course, the blood vessels. But as mentioned earlier, our body cannot store excess vitamin C.
4. Better Vision
Pineapple is also rich in vitamin A, which is responsible for good eyesight. Beta-carotene prevents eye diseases and optic nerve inflammation (especially important if you spend a lot of time working on the computer). Pineapple significantly reduces the risk of macular degeneration (a condition of the retina that usually comes with age, but unfortunately, more and more young people are experiencing this issue today).
5. Bones
Pineapple contains plenty of calcium, magnesium, and manganese. In two slices, there's enough that, along with a varied vegetable intake, you don't have to worry about deficiencies (it contains about 50% of the recommended daily amount).
By the way, manganese protects the body from free radicals, which are the main cause of cancer. Free radicals also speed up the aging process inside (internal organs) and outside (skin, hair, nails).
6. Prevents Stroke
Potassium in pineapple lowers blood pressure and prevents strokes. It also helps dissolve blood clots and even prevents their formation.
7. Digestive System
The cellulose in pineapple helps fight bloating and constipation. It also assists with ulcers and ulcerative colitis (Crohn's disease). While it’s only supportive alongside medications, you need to be careful, as pineapple can increase stomach acid levels.
