For years, Himalayan shilajit resin was a closely guarded secret
Even today, researchers are uncertain whether shilajit resin has geological or biological origins. For millennia, this resin was more valuable than gold. Find out why!
The largest deposits of shilajit resin are found in the Himalayas, Tibet, and also in the Caucasus. It’s a resin with a strong odor, ranging from yellowish-brown to black in color (depending on its composition). Athletes call it the elixir of records, and ancient healers described it in the highest terms. The resin was used for medicinal purposes thousands of years ago but was reserved only for emperors due to its extremely high price. Even today, raw shilajit is more expensive than gold.

In the last century, the world practically didn’t know about shilajit because it remained a closely kept secret by Russia and India for many years. During the Soviet era in the mid-20th century, extensive research was conducted, resulting in the development of various medical preparations under the name mumiyo. The Russians had a special program aimed at finding a cure for all known diseases at the time. Among all the candidates, shilajit resin ranked the highest.

Modern research shows that shilajit contains numerous vitamins and amino acids, all in a very rare ionic form. Additionally, the composition of Himalayan shilajit includes substances from Antarctica as well as valuable glycerol derivatives (by the way, recent studies suggest that glycerol can rapidly reduce eye pressure). Shilajit has been known in Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years, yet it was never widely available. Emperors, who were the only ones who could afford it, would dissolve 200 mg of resin in water daily, believing it would slow down aging, boost energy, improve memory, and enhance immunity.

And they were right.

Modern studies have confirmed all this—and much more!

Shilajit resin helps regulate blood sugar levels, increases the absorption of vital nutrients, enhances detoxification, and boosts the body's antioxidant response. And that's just the beginning.

Here are some of the conditions that shilajit can treat or alleviate:

1. Alzheimer’s Disease Alzheimer’s is a progressive brain disorder that leads to memory, behavior, and thinking issues. Based on its molecular composition, many researchers believe that shilajit can prevent and slow the progression of Alzheimer’s disease. The primary component of shilajit is an antioxidant known as fulvic acid, which prevents the buildup of tau proteins, essential to the nervous system.

2. Regulates Testosterone Levels Testosterone is the primary male sex hormone, but some people don’t have enough of it. Symptoms of low testosterone include sudden hair loss, muscle mass loss, fatigue, weight gain, and excess body fat. In a clinical study, half of the men aged 45 to 55 were given a placebo, while the other half received 250 mg of purified shilajit twice a day. After 90 days, the difference was obvious. In favor of shilajit, of course.

3. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Chronic fatigue syndrome is a prolonged condition of fatigue when cells don't produce enough energy. A study conducted on rats (where they had to swim for 15 minutes daily) showed significantly less oxidative stress, attributed to the intake of purified shilajit resin (which is why shilajit tablets are also recommended for active athletes).

4. Prevents Aging What people believed thousands of years ago has turned out to be true. The best evidence may be the true longevity of emperors, and today we know that fulvic acid is a powerful antioxidant, with anti-inflammatory properties, that protects us from free radicals and cellular damage. Shilajit has been proven to contribute to longevity, slow down aging, and improve overall health.

5. Treats Altitude Sickness Altitude sickness can result from low atmospheric pressure, low temperatures, and high wind speeds. Additionally, high altitudes can cause pulmonary edema, insomnia, lethargy (a feeling of exhaustion), dementia, and hypoxia (a condition where the brain doesn’t get enough oxygen, making you feel like you’re suffocating, and it can even lead to cardiac arrest).

6. Anemia Anemia is a deficiency of iron in the blood, which may result from blood loss or the inability to absorb iron. Symptoms include cold hands and feet, headaches, and irregular heartbeat. Shilajit significantly improves blood health.

7. Heart Health Shilajit, as a dietary supplement, improves heart health and strengthens the heart muscle.

However, we must also include some warnings: if you have an active heart condition, you should not take shilajit.

Also, be cautious with raw resin, which may contain heavy metal ions, fungi, and other contaminants. Only purified shilajit is safe.

In our area, the safest way to consume shilajit is in the form of tablets. An ideal time to take them is in the afternoon when fatigue rises and immunity drops. In Russia, where mumiyo tablets are widely available and popular, they dissolve one tablet in a glass of water daily. For many, this is still considered the greatest and best discovery of the previous regime."
