The fact is that a lack of vitamins decreases appetite, while too many vitamins restore it. Does this mean that vitamins really cause weight gain?
When we talk about B vitamins, we never talk about a group, but rather about a complex. The reason for this lies in the properties of the individual vitamins from the B-complex. B vitamins are indeed complex, and they are also highly dependent on each other.
It has been scientifically proven that vitamin B1 brings appetite back within normal limits. The problem here is that we humans have raised this limit higher than necessary due to improper eating habits. In addition, the combination of vitamins B2, B5, and B12 maintains the level of appetite, which is especially good to know when you are drinking multivitamin juices or taking vitamin tablets. These preparations are intended for recovery after illness or surgery, but not for healthy people. The fact is, too many vitamins cause weight gain, while too few are harmful to health (the first signs of deficiency are seen in brittle and split hair and nails).
It is also good to know the chemical names of B vitamins:
- B1 is Thiamine (the required daily amount is 1.1 mg)
- B2 is Riboflavin (1.1 mg)
- B3 is Niacin (14.0 mg)
- B5 is Pantothenic acid (5.0 mg)
- B6 is Pyridoxine (1.3 mg)
- B7 is Biotin (sometimes you'll also find the name vitamin H - 0.03 mg)
- B9 is Folic acid (0.4 mg)
- B12 is Cobalamin (0.0024 mg)
All B complex vitamins are also found in plants, except for B12, which is found mostly in seafood and in no plant (this is especially important for vegetarians). The problem with multivitamin supplements is that their complex of vitamins is not balanced according to the recommended daily amounts of individual vitamins. Many multivitamin tablets do not contain vitamins B7 and B9 at all, while vitamins 1 to 3 are overdosed. Unfortunately, these are the very vitamins that regulate appetite. It is also good to know why vitamin B12 is so frequent in cosmetics: it helps keep a youthful appearance, firm skin, healthy hair, and bright eyes. What is unusual is that shampoos and other hair care products enriched with B vitamins have the most comprehensive vitamin profile, but shampoos, after all, are not for eating as they contain many other substances that are harmful to health.
Finally, the question arises: do other vitamins also affect appetite? Yes, but to a much lesser extent than the B-complex.
No one has ever gained weight from too much vitamin C.
