Fried food greatly increases the risks of developing numerous diseases that can even lead to death. If you include at least one meal of fried food every day, your expected lifespan is shortened by 8%.
Statistics show that the risk of premature death is 13% higher if you eat fried chicken three times a week. Heart and vascular problems increase by 12%, and women in menopause have 7% more problems; issues can also arise with the thyroid, regardless of gender.
Frying is mainly problematic because of low-quality oil, which behaves unpredictably at high temperatures, forming carcinogenic substances. In addition, fried food absorbs large amounts of fats, which is particularly harmful for blood vessels.
The research lasted 18 years and included 106,966 respondents aged between 50 and 79 years. The participants had to record all the fried food they consumed, which included fried chicken, fish, fries, chips, and all other fried foods. The results showed that it doesn't even matter what you eat, because frying itself is so problematic that the type of food becomes irrelevant.
But something else was revealed...
The mentioned research was conducted in the USA and England. There were no major discrepancies between the countries.
However, there were differences compared to a similar study conducted in Spain, where they found no connection between premature death and fried food, nor with an increased risk for diabetes. The only difference recognized by researchers was the type of oil used.
The Spanish mostly prepare food with olive oil.
Olive oil can withstand much higher temperatures, even over 180 degrees Celsius, which is typical for frying.
